New leader agrees to address widespread corruption Shortly after Liberia’s presidential elections last November, Lutheran Church in Liberia Bishop Sumoward Harris told President-elect Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf that he hoped her government would see the church as a partner in redirecting the country in a positive direction. At her Jan. 16 installation in Monrovia, Johnson-Sirleaf said she would accept a call by Harris and other Liberian church leaders for her government to combat corruption in the West African country.
